Glovebox for Battery Research
Battery research is one of the most important glovebox applications of all. Lithium, sodium and many electrolytes react violently with oxygen and moisture – so cell assembly, electrode preparation and material handling must take place under a clean, dry inert-gas atmosphere. A used, refurbished glovebox is the most economical way to equip a lab for this.

Why a glovebox is essential
Metallic lithium and lithiated materials oxidise in air within seconds; electrolytes absorb moisture and decompose. Even small amounts of oxygen or water distort measurements and degrade cell performance. In a glovebox you work under argon with oxygen and moisture levels below 1 ppm – reproducibly and safely.
What matters in the box
- Argon atmosphere: argon is standard for lithium (nitrogen reacts with Li). Make sure the unit is designed for argon.
- Gas purification below 1 ppm: molecular sieve and copper catalyst keep O₂ and H₂O permanently low and regenerate automatically.
- Solvent filter (activated carbon): electrolyte and solvent vapours should be captured by an activated-carbon filter to protect the catalyst and the atmosphere.
- Antechambers: a large main plus mini antechamber saves gas and time when frequently transferring samples.
- Feedthroughs: sealed feedthroughs are important for cables and measurement equipment (e.g. potentiostat, cell tester).
- Working space & gloves: a 4- or 8-glove unit is worthwhile for teams; a compact 2-glove box is enough for single workstations.
