Glovebox for OLED Manufacturing

OLED materials are extremely sensitive to oxygen and moisture – even traces cause degradation, dark spots and shorter lifetime. Processing, characterisation and encapsulation of organic semiconductors therefore take place under a clean inert-gas atmosphere. A used, refurbished glovebox is the economical way to equip an OLED lab.

Why a glovebox for OLED?

Emitter materials, transport layers and cathode metals are air- and moisture-sensitive. In the glovebox you work under argon or nitrogen with O₂ and H₂O levels below 1 ppm – reproducibly, from deposition through characterisation to encapsulation.

What matters

  • Very low O₂/H₂O levels: stable gas purification in the single-digit ppm range, often < 1 ppm.
  • Solvent filter (activated carbon): for solution-processed OLEDs, to capture solvent vapours.
  • Antechambers & feedthroughs: for substrate transfer and connecting measurement equipment.
  • Integration of process equipment: e.g. encapsulation and curing technology directly in the box.

Encapsulation directly in the box

For hermetic encapsulation of sensitive OLED samples under protective gas, we offer suitable lab equipment – such as the MBraun UV-Press (bonding and UV curing in seconds) and the MBraun UV-Clean (UV/ozone surface cleaning).

Suitable used gloveboxes

Brand-name gloveboxes with reliable gas purification are suitable for OLED applications, in particular from MBraun. For an overview of current stock, see our range; what to look for when buying used is explained in the guide.

Accessories & consumables

Gloves, filter fillings (molecular sieve, copper catalyst), activated carbon and seals are available through our partner KeT Boxsysteme – see glovebox accessories & consumables.
